The 2025 Suburban is one of Chevy’s truck-based SUVs and gets power from a massive 5.3L V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Like its truck sibling, the Silverado 1500, this behemoth of an SUV can be customized with more powerful engine options, including a 3.0L turbo-diesel engine that provides up to 495 pound-feet of torque.
Each trim level of the midsize Traverse is powered by a 2.5L Turbo engine with a net output of 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with an efficient eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas each Suburban powertrain uses an engine-tuned ten-speed automatic transmission with a traction management system and a tow/haul mode.
Drivetrain Options
These two SUVs not only have different engines but also come with different powertrain options. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Suburban, providing efficient power transfer for quicker acceleration and improved handling in sportier driving conditions. Four-wheel drive is available and delivers confident handling off the road.
The Traverse comes in standard front-wheel drive, a drivetrain option that enhances handling in adverse weather and delivers outstanding fuel economy. This SUV can be customized with all-wheel drive for enhanced grip on challenging roads.
Interior Layout
Much more spacious than the Traverse, the full-size Suburban comes standard with an eight-seat interior layout and can be customized with a three-passenger front bench if you need room for up to nine riders. Second-row captain’s chairs are also available on select trim levels, providing your passengers with first-class comfort.
The Traverse comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs and room for seven riders, but it can be had with a second-row bench if you need seats for eight. Both models boast upscale comfort and convenience with an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a 17.7-inch infotainment system with Google built-in.
Cargo Space
Built with growing families in mind, both SUVs provide plenty of room for cargo. The Suburban has a rear cargo volume of 41.5 cubic feet, and you can fold all rear seats to increase the capacity up to 144.5 cubic feet. The Traverse boasts 22.9 cubic feet of rear cargo capacity that expands up to 97.6 cubic feet with all rear seats folded.
